Position Description - Your Organisation: Business Development Manager (BDM)

Reporting to and partnering with the CEO and leadership team, the business development manager (BDM) will lead the development of business solutions for 'Your Organisation.' You will manage client accounts and develop new business through innovative sales ideas, including new sales strategies, sales pitches, and business plans. Your main purpose is to generate more revenue for 'Your Organisation.'

Specific responsibilities include:

Business Development Manager - Your Organisation: Strategy

  • Partner with the CEO on all business development and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on market analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

  • Collaborate with the sales, marketing and business development teams to originate and organise new business development initiatives and project strategies.

  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team and oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with 'Your Organisation's' strategic plan.

  • Engage senior management and department heads to align financial management with short- and long-term planning and projections.

  • Oversee long-term business development budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with 'Your Organisation's' strategic plan. Manage the departmental budget and co-ordinate budgetary alignment with sales nad marketing departments.

  • Cultivate relationships and maintain open communication channels with shareholders, stakeholders and the public as required.

  • Update job, industry and trend knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organisations.

Business Development Manager - Your Organisation: Financial and Operational Management

  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present BDM metrics both internally and externally.

  • Determine KPIs for the department; work with sales, marketing and customer success teams to ensure an integrated approach to customer attraction, support, retention and building brand loyalty.

  • Oversee market research, pricing, product/service development to ensure that all R&D is aligned with industry trends and emerging opportunities.

  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all reporting materials and metrics for 'Your Organisation's' Board of Directors; prepare and communicate monthly, quarterly and annual BDM reports.

  • Manage cash flow, forecasting and workflows; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.

  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to plan, organise and execute promotional activities such as prospect and customer events, conferences and exhibitions to increase brand awareness.

  • Prepare, negotiate and manage records of sales, including revenue, and business development related data.

Business Development Manager - Your Organisation: Team Management

  • Develop and manage direct staff in addition working with managers in sales, marketing and support; guide larger multidisciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.

  • Cultivate positive interactions and relationships with sales, marketing and support employees, including team leaders, managers, and executives to evaluate sales strategy and results. Provide motivation to team members to meet and exceed KPIS and goals.

  • Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures all sales, marketing, customer support and business development solutions positively support 'Your Organisation’s' evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.

  • Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for 'Your Organisation's' BDM employees.

  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing key national team members for 'Your Organisation.'

Business Development Manager - Your Organisation: Qualifications

The BDM will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 5-7 years of broad experience across business development, sales, marketing, management, customer service or business administration for a mid-sized organisation.

The BDM will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, administration, or related field.

  • At least 3 years' experience managing a team marketing is a must, including examples of demonstrable excellence in the workplace.

  • Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the sales and marketing leads of a similar-sized organisation.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.

  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.

  • Demonstrable experience of positioning a company in a competitive market and winning market share.

  • A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

  • An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.

  • Strong commitment to developing team members.

  • Demonstrated and proven business development and sales results.

  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel) plus BDM/Sales software (Salesforce, Hubspot, etc.).

  • An extremely high level of integrity and willingness to abide by all non-compete/solicit agreements.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the industry with a passion for 'Your Organisation’s' mission is essential.
