Starlight Children's Foundation is an organisation whose star is definitely on the rise. Those of you who know Starlight’s mission and the fantastic programs they provide to seriously ill children, young people and their families, know that they do great things out in the world. However, as an organisation that is now 27 years old, their journey to greatness internally, as an organisation of choice for employees, has been a long and sometimes challenging journey.

Subscribe-HR is privileged to have been given a peek inside how Starlight has literally transformed itself from the inside out. Once an organisation with low morale, high turnover, and disengaged donors, Starlight is now an award winning organisation and employer of choice. This has been achieved through a commitment to engagement, alignment and advocacy.

Susan Henry, Head of People and Culture at Starlight, has been with the organisation for 13 years and was an integral part of the transformation process. She was kind enough to give us the opportunity to tell the Starlight story and we were very interested in sharing it. As an organisation, Subscribe-HR is committed to creating better work, better workplaces and a better world. We believe in putting the ‘Human’ back in human resources and we focus on bringing you content that gives you tools for your HR toolkit that helps you make this possible.

However, sometimes the theory about ‘what’ to do, really needs to be illustrated by the ‘how,’ as well as providing you with examples of organisations who have managed to achieve greatness by following the theory, putting it into practice and reaping the rewards for the benefit of all.

Starlight is exactly that kind of living, breathing example of an organisation that has put in the hard, self-reflective work required, and against the odds, become one of the top employers of choice in Australia. What makes this even more special is the fact that Starlight is a Not-For-Profit organisation that is entirely funded by donations. So, we take our hats off to Susan and the entire Starlight team for such a stellar example of what’s possible when a group of committed individuals work as a collective for the betterment of self as well as other. It’s a story that deserves to be shouted from the rooftops, although Susan is a humbly inspiring woman that doesn’t make a habit of blowing her own horn, so we’re going to do it for her and her team.

Tomorrow, May 1st, marks Starlight’s annual major funding drive. We encourage our community to read the Starlight story and learn from their brilliant transformation. We also encourage you to give generously so that Starlight can continue to transform he lives of seriously ill children, young people and their families well into the future.

Starlight makes it easy to contribute – just click on the link and you will be taken to their donation page.
