Posted by Mathew French on 20 June 2023

The events of early 2020 forced companies worldwide to rapidly adapt to new challenges – a "new normal" of remote work, scaled-down teams, and limited physical interactions. As we approach three years in this transformed business environment, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the state of our organisations’ workplace culture.

Reinventing Organisations: the Transition to Industry 4.0

Posted by Mathew French on 30 July 2019

We're all conscious of the fact that working in a shifting market landscape with constant disruption, all the while leveraging automation to optimise production, is an ongoing challenge. According to Deloitte's research about the age of 'Industry 4.0,' many leaders view the transition required by digital transformation as complex and challenging. However necessary digital industrial transformation may be on an organisation’s path to becoming fully connected, the journey if often hindered by speed bumps. Deloitte’s Industry 4.0 Readiness Report found that only 14 percent of the 1,600 C-level executives surveyed are confident that their organisations are ready to fully harness the changes associated with Industry 4.0. As organisations are called on to transform along with the market and society itself, what types of business models will serve the organisations of the future? Driving Organisational Culture Change

Posted by Mathew French on 26 March 2019

Management Guru Peter Drucker famously stated that culture eats strategy for breakfast. In a business environment where culture is more important than ever, developing your organisational culture is more than just having a set of values and a vision. Everyone in the business needs to live and breathe your culture and set the example. It needs to be part of everything you do, and it should act as a set of rules to help guide and empower your people with decision making. It is only when values are taken off the wall lived by all employees in word and action that you can say your organisation has a strong corporate culture. Reduced to its essence, culture = values x behaviour. In this week's HR Blog, we look at why it is important to ensure values and behaviours align, and culture is a lived experience not just a slogan.

Which HR Trends Matter to Your Business in 2019

Posted by Mathew French on 12 March 2019

Our recent HR Blog about the rise of the social enterprise defined this as the overarching theme of Deloitte's 2018 Human Capital Trends Report. The rise of the social enterprise reflects the fact that social capital is achieving a newfound status alongside financial and physical capital as a measure of the value of a business. This change is being driven by many factors, with trust being one of the leading metrics. Ernst & Young's global study on trust in the workplace poses the question 'could trust cost you a generation of talent?' The subtext being that businesses that don't take the trust issue seriously could suffer long-term consequences. Edelman's annual trust barometer for 2019 presents a more positive view for employers. Despite a high lack of faith in 'the system' and institutions overall, there is one relationship that remains strong, and that is the one individuals have with their employer. So how can HR Professionals ensure that these big picture signals aren't ignored in the rush to tick items off ever lengthening to do lists? Let's unpack the headlines so that you have a clear picture of how the world of work is evolving and which HR trends matter to your business in 2019.

Roadmap For HR Managers in an Organisational Restructure

Posted by Mathew French on 31 August 2017

We're currently doing 2017 edits of some of our most popular Blog posts. Back in 2014 we published 'Key Concerns for HR Managers in an Organisational Restructure, and it still gets a significant number of views every month. However, the business landscape has shifted quite significantly in the last 3 years, so we figured it was time for an update. After all, as the disruption from AI, robotics and other upheaval transforms the way we work, having some sound restructure foundations to guide your process will become more essential than ever.
