Global Human Capital Trends 2020 - Deloitte's Annual Report

Posted by Mathew French on 18 June 2020

Every year, Deloitte conducts an extensive study on the emerging and prevailing trends in human capital and the future of work. Each year, the post we write on our HR blog about that report is always one of the most popular. In 2020, the Human Capital Trends Report highlights an intensifying combination of economic, social, and political issues impacting HR and business leaders. These factors continue to put pressure on businesses to operate in a more socially oriented manner (a continuation of 2019's trend, which we covered in a previous HR blog post), and to reinvent their organisations around a more ethical and human focus. Let's take a look at the highlights of this year's report and discover the HR metrics that matter in 2020 and beyond.

Better Decision Making With HR Dashboards and Data Visualisation

Posted by Mathew French on 14 April 2020

HR Dashboards are an indispensable tool for HR professionals. They provide critical data visualisation for relevant metrics across the entire employee lifecycle, including hiring, retention, onboarding, performance, and more. Today's #HRTech makes it possible to purchase dashboard apps to integrate with your other business systems. Or if you have developers within your organisation you can build your own dashboards using excel or by developing your own system. But really, what you want is an HR system with customisable Dashboards built in to your HR software itself. In this HR Blog we look at the benefit of using dashboards to get a real-time overview of your data so that you can gain valuable business intelligence to run an agile and successful organisation using HR automation.

HR's Top Five Priorities for 2020 and Beyond

Posted by Mathew French on 28 January 2020

Every year at this time, HR software companies across the globe publish blogs about HR trends for the coming year (and beyond). Some blogs list up to 25 trends to keep your eye on, but who has time to stay on top of a list that long in this day and age? If you apply the 80/20 rule to a list that totals 25, you really only need to focus on 5 trends or priorities. And more importantly, you need to choose the top 5 things that matter most to your business. In our first HR Blog for 2020, we're going to explore Gartner's perspective on the top 5 priorities for HR leaders in 2020. These are derived from Gartner's 2020 Future of HR Survey, which polled HR leaders to assess their priorities and expected challenges in 2020 and beyond.

Management's Next Frontier - The Digital Ecosystem

Posted by Mathew French on 28 May 2019

According to research reported by MIT's Sloan Review, the term 'ecosystem' occurs 13 times more frequently now than it did a decade ago. Now, we all know that buzzwords and jargon tend to get overused and aren't always included in the appropriate context. In the modern business lexicon, the word 'ecosystem' has been used to refer to support functions, product portfolios, service bundles (the list goes on). Behind these linguistic applications however, there is a bona-fide new phenomenon evolving in the marketplace. That is the rise of dynamic, multi-company (eco)systems that provide the foundation for new ways of doing business. These digital ecosystems are comprised of companies, people, data and processes that are connected by the shared use of and intersection between digital platforms. In building these ecosystems, businesses foster collaboration and provide mutually beneficial relationships between all parties involved. If it is true that mastering digital ecosystems are one of management's next frontiers, how can HR professionals take the lead on managing these ecosystems as part of the digital transformation of HR?

The Four Day Work Week - Here's What You Need To Know

Posted by Mathew French on 27 November 2018

The way we work is in constant flux. Old assumptions about the best way to work are being questioned. New ways of doing business are being tested against productivity measures, return on investment and benefit to employees. A hot topic at the moment is the four day work week, but will it work for everyone? The reality is that absenteeism is a major ongoing problem in Australia. The rate of absenteeism across the country continues to rise, with as much as 5% of the Australian workforce calls in sick on any given day. To put it another way, this means that in a company with 20 employees, there will be one absence every single day. An unexpected employee absence can cost a business as much as $340 a day, while the annual cost to the Australian economy of lost productivity through absenteeism is a staggering $33 billion, with a total of 92 million working days being lost through unexpected absences. Whether it is a sign of entitlement or burnout, the impact these levels of absenteeism have on business are significant and some businesses are trying different ways of working in an effort to transform this challenge.
